Volunteer Intake/Reception Worker

Volunteering at Times Change is a rewarding opportunity for someone interested in helping women to feel comfortable in the process of moving toward self-sufficiency. It is also an excellent learning opportunity for those considering study in a career/work counsellor program, or community service worker program, or interested in the non-profit sector.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience answering telephone calls in a friendly and professional manner
  • An understanding of the services offered at Times Change
    (all volunteer applicants must attend the Getting Started orientation session)
  • An ability to remain calm when callers are anxious or persistent
  • An ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • English proficiency is a must
  • A background in counselling and/or assessment is an asset
  • A commitment to one (four hour) phone shift per week on a regular basis for a minimum of three months

Nature of Work:

  • Greeting clients in a warm and welcoming manner
  • Answering multiple telephone lines, forwarding calls, taking messages
  • Providing detailed information about Times Change services over the phone and in person
  • Helping clients assess which services best suit their needs
  • Registering clients into workshops
  • Scheduling computer time and individual appointments
  • Referring clients to a staff person when appropriate
  • Referring clients to external resources when appropriate
  • Recording data
