Times Change Women's Employment Service
Thursday July 21st, 2011- Times Change Women's Employment Service hosted Corporate Brainstorming guru Marilyn Barefoot, of Barefoot Brainstorming, as she presented the world of linkedIn to curious job seekers.
Marilyn encouraged job seekers who are looking to network to use linkedin.com by showing linkedIn as a tool that can be fun, flexible and easy to use- even for the novice of computer user. She explained how linkedIn has the power to make valuable connections, to access the hidden job market, and help you stay current with topics and discussion related to your field.
Marilyn is a prime example of how using linkedIn can help you make new connections that can lead to employment. One of her own experiences which turned into a job opportunity was through simply posting to her network the latest presentation she was doing with a company on a particular topic. She was contacted shortly after by another company who wanted her to deliver the same material. And she was paid handsomely for her knowledge.
To get started on linkedIn, Marilyn recommended clients create a profile, including a photo, to show you are using linkedIn actively. Then she recommends building your network through connections, searching the job tabs in your profession and applying for a job directly on line.
She encouraged clients to make the most of their time and effort on linkedIn by providing knowledge and information to connections as the social networking platform is intended primarily for networking and making connections.
"Give as much as you can," stressed Marilyn and this will lead to infinite possibilities and opportunities. Discuss issues in groups, provide links on your update section that are of interest to your network, join groups and contribute regularly.
