"In harsh economic times, the challenges of women who are searching for work or who are underemployed, become even more immediate," said Educational Counsellor Julie Warrington at Times Change. "We are thrilled to be included in this year's Canadian Business for Social Responsibility Program because it provides our clients with the unique opportunity to share their stories face to face with corporate leaders. This can only help to personalize community issues and inspire meaningful outcomes where businesses share knowledge and create access to valuable resources."
The Seeing is Believing program is based on the simple concept that you can't solve a problem without seeing it. This year's theme is "Increasing Employability and Economic Independence for Women". High profile business leaders are linking with a diverse group of seven clients at Times Change Women's Employment Service to hear their personal stories of career transition and the search for employment. Clients are also discussing their employment successes thanks to the expertise of staff at Times Change. The community visit encourages a personal dialogue with a goal of strengthening business practices to deliver a positive community impact.
Times Change Women's Employment Service is a non-profit, community agency established in 1974 to provide free employment and educational counselling and computer training for women. Staff members possess a special interest in helping women reach their employment goals in the labour market.
Canadian Business for Social Responsibility introduced the Seeing is Believing Program to Canada in 2005. To date, 88 Canadian executives have visited 19 community organizations. In 1990, the program was launched in the United Kingdom by HRH, The Prince of Wales as a practical way to bring corporate executives face-to-face with pressing social issues and to help business leaders engage in innovative solutions.
