Meet Pam

Tell me about yourself. . .

I’m 52, live downtown Toronto and have a background in advertising and communications. I was also self-employed as a consultant working with seniors and did janitorial work to fill in for income. I was working in communications and became more and more unhappy  Over the last year I decided I wanted to focus on being of service to people but didn’t know what direction to take.

What brought you to Times Change?

My sister was a former client of Times Change and highly recommended it. Right from the Getting Started session I knew I was in the right place. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and supportive; the resource centre is well organized and second to none, and the workshops are relevant, current and interactive.

What services have you used at Times Change and how have they helped?

I participated in the Career planning workshop and it delivered beyond my expectations. The course’s design is simple and logical and each chapter is designed to progress participants to the next step. Being with women is a special characteristic of Times Change. The interactivity gave me practice in networking, which is so critical in today’s job market. For me, Times Change gave me the confidence and clarity to go forward.

What would you be doing if you hadn't come to Times Change?

Had I not taken the career planning workshop, I probably would have retreated to the work I did before- it paid the bills, and was familiar and safe. However, my life wouldn’t be the same as it is now. I’m excited with the direction I’m headed and really feel in my heart that I’m on the right path.

What path are you on now?

I decided I wanted to pursue Life Coaching as a result of the career planning workshop. I chose a school and am now at the practicum stage in my study. I expect to have my certificate by Christmas and begin to build my practice in the New Year.

In your opinion, what makes Times Change special?

Times Change was created from the women’s movement and what’s wonderful to me is that they’ve kept that spirit alive. It has made a huge difference for me.
